More sewage in S.F. Bay? Really?

February 24th, 2009 · by gfrost

Got word last night of another huge spill of untreated sewage in the San Francisco Bay last night, this time in Richmond. (Remember the last one?) Further inquiries this morning alerted us to at least three sewage spills in the East Bay since Sunday, resulting in at least 850,000 gallons of treated and untreated sewage, probably more. For that reason, shorelines throughout the bay — including beaches at the Richardson Bay Audubon Center & Sanctuary — still have signs warning people to stay away from the water.

Clearly, something is very wrong with the area’s infrustructure when it is a given that every time it rains, tens of thousands of gallons of sewage pour into the Bay. For our own health and that of birds and other wildlife that call the Bay home. This has to stop.
